When it comes to the luxury sport sedans on the market, two of the most popular options are undoubtedly the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Lexus ES 350. The models are not only the top choices in their segment, but in their respective lineups as well, and seeing as they both continue to gain a great deal of popularity among consumers, they make for an interesting comparison. As you can see from the table that we have provided, when comparing the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class vs 2015 Lexus ES 350, it’s clear that both of the vehicles have their advantages, but overall, those looking for a more appealing balance of performance and luxury are sure to find that the C-Class offers a slight advantage over the comparable ES 350.

Under the Hood

Perhaps the biggest difference between the C-Class and the ES 350 has to do with the engines that come standard beneath the hoods. Hidden beneath the skin of the Mercedes offering lurks a smaller 1.8-liter four-cylinder that has the ability to generate as much as 201 horsepower with ease. The ES 350, on the other hand, employs an engine that is nearly twice the size, and that adds an extra two cylinders to the equation. With the added size, it’s no surprise that the V6 of the ES 350 is slightly more powerful than the C-Class, but even so, the luxurious Mercedes-Benz makes up for the difference with its superior fuel economy.

Performance

Since the size of the engine found in the C-Class is roughly half the size of the one found in the nose of the ES 350, it’s able to stretch a tank of gas much further. When it encounters highway roads, it’s able to go as far as 31 miles on a single gallon, and in city driving, the 24 mpg rating is far superior to the 21 mpg rating achieved by the ES 350. The difference is likely also due to the fact that the C-Class has an extra speed attached to its automatic transmission, helping to increase overall efficiency, and to provide a smooth driving experience on any and all roads.

You’ll likely notice that when it comes to price, the C-Class is slightly more expensive, however, when you consider that it’s capable of providing a slight advantage over the ES 350, it’s clear that the price jump is justified.
