As two of the top luxury automotive brands in the industry, Mercedes-Benz and BMW offer up a range of appealing options, and in most cases, their vehicles offer similar capabilities, as the brands are also two of the fiercest competitors in the industry. Two vehicles that are highly competitive are the E-Class and the 4 Series, both of which reside smack dab in the middle of the lineup. Since they are positioned in the middle, they are able to deliver an appealing balance between performance and efficiency. One of the vehicles, however, is able to strike a balance that is a bit more appealing than the other. With closer examination of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz E-Class vs 2015 BMW 4 Series, it’s clear to see which of the brands is better.

More Trim Options

It all starts with the number of options that both of the vehicles provide. With the E-Class, the options are so extensive that looking at them all can actually be a bit overwhelming. There are 15 different trim options available for the E-Class, and with sedans, coupes, convertibles and hybrids available, the choices are plentiful. With the decisions up to you, you don’t ever have to worry about settling for any less than the best. The 4 Series, on the other hand, only has four trim options, which somewhat limits your choice.

The wide variety of options also allows you to take advantage of a range of capabilities. Whether you’re looking for power, efficiency, or a mix of the two, you can rest assured that the E-Class can deliver it.

Turbocharged Capabilities

The entry-level vehicle of the E-Class is the E250 BlueTEC, which comes equipped with a diesel engine that is able to deliver an appealing set of capabilities. With the turbocharged 2.1-liter diesel engine under the hood, the E250 is able to generate 195 horsepower and stretch a gallon of gas as far as 42 mpg on the highway, which far surpasses the 30 mpg highway rating that the 4 Series delivers. If fuel efficiency is what you’re looking for, there is no arguing that the diesel-powered E250 is the best option for you.

If you are looking for the balance that we discussed earlier, you can get it with either the E350 or E400 Sedan. Both of the vehicles are able to travel 20 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, and yet they possess the ability to produce 302 and 329 horsepower respectively. If you are shopping for power, you will be sure to appreciate that the AMG department has a few options on the shelf. There is an E63 AMG that has the ability to generate 550 horsepower and an S-Model of the E63 that makes 577 horsepower.

What’s Your Choice?

With so many different options, it’s not difficult to see why consumers nationwide are choosing the 2015 Mercedes-Benz E-Class over the 2015 BMW 4 Series. The E-Class offers something for just about everyone, and even when closely matched with the 4 Series, it’s clear to see that Mercedes holds a slight edge over its Bavarian rival. It’s one of the reasons that Mercedes is the top luxury brand in the world.
