Here at Vin Devers, we sell both Mercedes-Benz and Audi vehicles, and as we deal with them on a daily basis, you could say that we know a thing or two about what they’re capable of. However, we understand that vehicles from both of the foreign automakers are often so close in comparison that it can be difficult to distinguish a difference between them. For that reason we thought that we would share a bit of our knowledge with you and look at the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLA vs 2015 Audi Q3, so that you can see what we do. That is that neither of the compact SUVs are particularly better than the other, but that they both have their share of benefits. The decision of which is better for your needs will be left to you.

Engine and Powertrain

Both the Mercedes-Benz GLA and the Audi Q3 come standard with 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines that produce extremely similar outputs. It could be argued that the GLA offers up a slight advantage, but with a different of just eight horsepower, the difference between the models is hardly noticeable. There is a slightly bigger gap when it comes to torque, but again with a difference of just 50 lb-ft of twist between the two, the advantage is not extreme by any means. Perhaps the biggest advantage that the GLA has over the Audi Q3 is that it comes standard with all-wheel drive, while the base model of the Q3 sends all of its power to the rear wheels. That’s not to say that AWD is entirely out of the question, however. It offers up a Premium Plus model that adds the quattro all-wheel drive system for a slight increase in price.

Fuel Economy

As you can see from the chart that we have provided above, one of the most significant advantages of the GLA is its superior fuel economy ratings. The compact SUV is able to travel as far as 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. The Q3 is not far behind with its ratings of 20 and 29 mpg in the city and highway cycles respectively, but even so, when it comes to efficiency, there is no arguing that the GLA is the more capable option. The Audi Q3 makes up for the difference with its appealing price, however. The GLA is the second most affordable vehicle in the Mercedes lineup, but it still comes in higher than the Q3 which is priced at $32,500, a surprisingly low price for a vehicle with its caliber of luxury.

Cargo Space

If you are having a difficult time deciding which of the two is better suited for your needs, we’re sorry to have to cloud your head even further, but it’s worth mentioning that the space of both vehicles is about the same. With space for five passengers and more than 40 cubic feet-worth of cargo with the second row seat collapsed in the pair of luxury compact SUVs, you never have to worry about having enough room.
