How to Qualify for Tax Deductions and Write-Offs
Running through the tax code can sometimes prove to be a bit overwhelming, but with a little help it becomes clear that there are some huge deductions and write-offs available in Section 179 of the tax code:
- Deductions: If you’re purchasing a vehicle that weight between 6,000 and 14,000 pounds (GVW), then it qualifies for Section 179 of the tax code. This means that you can expense up to $25,000 of your purchase, as well as 50% for bonus depreciation and regular depreciation.
- Write-Offs: Some vehicles within Section 179 are available for a full write-off. This includes: vehicles with a cargo area measuring six feet or more in length that is not accessible from the passenger area, vans with nine-passenger seating or more, and vehicles with no rear seats.

Mercedes-Benz Metris Minivan

Also available in both passenger and cargo configurations, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van is a full-size van that gives you best-in-class interior volume, passenger seating for up to 12, extended roof and wheelbase options, and a max cargo volume or 319.1 cubic feet. Choose from turbocharged inline-four and a turbo-diesel V6 engines, as well as either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. You’ll also get a dual transfer case. When properly equipped, the Sprinter Van can tow up to 7,500 pounds and handle a payload of up to 3,513 pounds.
