2016 AMG GT

Started in 1967, AMG has been making some of the finest handcrafted engines and performance parts in the world. Mercedes-Benz themselves took notice of the independent engineering firm and formally took them under their wing as their high-performance division.

Normally, when a Mercedes-Benz model is graced with an AMG badge, it has meticulously refined and improved inside and out. However, the Mercedes-AMG GT joins the venerable SLS supercar as the second model to have been fully designed in-house by AMG, giving genuine credence to the “handcrafted by racers” tagline.

The 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT is all about balance. The 4.0L Bi-Turbo V8 sits behind the front wheels, making it front mid-engine, which optimizes weight distribution. Staggered 19-in. front and 20-in. rear wheels give the Mercedes-AMG GT optimum power delivery, turn-in response, and an aggressive stance.

Furthermore, the engine of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT is unlike any current production V8. Its two turbochargers and exhaust manifold are located between the two cylinder banks, allowing for nearly instantaneous throttle response and virtually no turbo lag. The unique V8 engine also uses a dry sump lubrication system, which allows the engine to be mounted much lower, giving the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT an extremely low center of gravity, adding to its balanced and predictable handling characteristics.
