As the two most affordable vehicles in the Audi lineup, it comes as no surprise that the Audi A3 and A4 are among the most popular models that come outfitted with the iconic four-ring emblem. There are a lot of similarities between the pair of vehicles, but there are also features and capabilities of both that make them unique. To differentiate the sedans, let’s take a closer look at the 2015 Audi A3 vs 2015 Audi A4.

The biggest difference between the two has all to do with what is found beneath the hood. In the Audi A3, a 1.8-liter gas-burning engine comes standard, but there is also a 2.0-liter gas burner, as well as a diesel burner of the same size available. In the Audi A4, there is only one engine option, and it is the same engine offered in the nose of the A3. This of course means that the capabilities of the powertrains are identical.

When loaded with the 2.0-liter TFSI engine, the Audi A3 and A4 are capable of producing as much as 220 horsepower and up to 258 lb-ft of torque. The engine also makes it possible for the vehicles to travel as far as 24 mpg in the city. When it comes to the highway cycle, the slightly-smaller Audi A3 is able to go just one mile further than its older brother, but at 32 mpg, there is no arguing that the Audi A4 is fuel efficient.

Perhaps the biggest difference between the A3 and the A4 is price. As we mentioned before, both of the vehicles are among the most affordable in the Audi lineup, but with a starting price that falls just below $30,000, the Audi A3 is far more financially feasible. Keep in mind, however, that the Audi A4 has the slightly larger and more capable 2.0-liter engine, which is one of the reasons that its price is slightly higher.
