Mercedes-Benz Provides SUV Line With a New Set of Names

New Updated Names of 2016 Mercedes-Benz SUVs

Just a short while back, we took a look at the new vehicle naming system of Mercedes-Benz, and as we told you then, although quite a few models will carry on under the same titles, a few will be getting all-new designations that will make it easier to distinguish where they stand in the lineup. Many of the big changes are in the SUV lineup, so let’s take a look at the new updated names of 2016 Mercedes-Benz SUVs.

2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe

Of the three SUVs that will be getting new names, the GLE Coupe is arguably one of the most notable, as it is has received a number of changes for the 2016 model year. The new line of vehicles will take over the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, and as it is most closely associated with the E-Class, it comes as no surprise that there will be hybrid and diesel models available, allowing you to choose from a variety of options.

2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC

Information on the GLC, which will be replacing the former GLK, is still vague at this point, and as the automaker hasn’t even released a photo of the new entry-level SUV, it’s not likely that we will know much more until we move closer to the release date. All we know is that it’ll be redesigned much like the GLE Coupe, and if the GLC is anything like its predecessor, there’s nothing to worry about.

2016 Mercedes-Benz GLS

In the past, the GL-Class served as the flagship of the SUV lineup, and for that reason, the newest model of the SUV, through the new naming system, takes on the letter S. As you’ll notice, it’s the same letter associated with the S-Class, luxurious flagship sedan of the German automaker. Information on the GLS is also a bit vague, but seeing as the SUV will hold the coveted S moniker, we know good things are coming.

It all may seem a bit confusing at this point, but just know that the new vehicle naming structure actually makes it all much more coherent. The new updated SUV names will only help, and if you check out our blog post on the latest Mercedes-Benz naming scheme, you will understand exactly what we mean.
