Mercedes Hybrids Deliver Both Efficiency and Performance

Advantages of Mercedes-Benz Hybrid Vehicles

Impeccable styling and unrivaled luxury have always been at the forefront of every Mercedes-Benz ever produced, but just recently, the German automaker has been making a push to bring more fuel economy to their family of vehicles. The number of hybrid models in the lineup continues to rise, and as they are new to most Mercedes enthusiasts, we decided to look at the advantages of Mercedes-Benz hybrid vehicles.

As of right now, there are only two gasoline-electric hybrids in the Mercedes lineup—the S400 Hybrid and the E400 Hybrid. As they are from the S-Class and E-Class respectively, it comes as no surprise that the pair of models offer the levels of style and luxury that we mentioned earlier. The real benefit of the models is not their style, however. The real advantage of the S400 and E400 is their ability to conserve fuel.

Of the two vehicles, the top performer is the hybrid variant of the popular E-Class. As the hybrid comes with a conventional gasoline engine as well as a battery-powered electric motor, it has the ability to stretch a tank of gas further than ever before. It all works by splitting the workload with the motor. Certain tasks that required fuel can now be completed with electricity, which helps to save you money at the pumps.

With the 3.5-liter V6 and electric motor working in tandem, the E400 is able to travel as far as 24 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The ratings may not seem as high as some of the other hybrids out there, but one of the other advantages of Mercedes hybrid vehicles is that they are not only able to deliver impressive fuel economy, but are able to hold onto the levels of performance that Mercedes is known for.

The majority of hybrid vehicles on the market are able to deliver fuel economy ratings upwards of 30 mpg, but they sacrifice performance in order to achieve those ratings. The Mercedes-Benz E400 is able to get the aforementioned ratings and provide impressive outputs as well. The standard V6 is able to shell out as much as 329 horsepower with both power sources, which is more than many other hybrids out there.

The ability to strike an appealing balance between performance and efficiency is one of the major reasons that so many continue to turn to the hybrid vehicles in the Mercedes-Benz lineup.
