Mercedes to Release 10 New Plug-In Hybrids by 2017
What Are The 10 New Mercedes-Benz Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles?
Although there are quite a few different fuel-efficient Mercedes models out there, fuel economy has never really been the main focus of the brand. That will all change by the year 2017, however, as Mercedes just announced that they will be releasing a total of 10 new Mercedes-Benz plug-in hybrid vehicles over the next few years. Unfortunately, it’s not likely that all of them will make their way to the states. We have faith that a quite a few of them will, however, so needless to say, our anticipation is at an all-time high.
The first question that comes to mind is, of course, what are the 10 new Mercedes-Benz plug-in hybrid vehicles? Sadly, the answer is not as obvious as the question. We only have a vague idea of what some of the new fuel-efficient vehicles will be, but based on what we know so far, the lineup will be impressive.
One vehicle that will positively get plug-in capabilities will be the GLE Coupe. Just a short while back, we took a look at the GLE hybrid and diesel models that appeared at the Detroit Auto Show, and as those versions of GLE have already seen the light of day, we expect a plug-in-hybrid version of the redesigned crossover to be one of the 10 on the list. It is also one that will most likely be coming to America.
There is still no official word on a release date, so be sure to take this with a grain of salt, but again, as the GLE would be the first plug-in crossover vehicle in the lineup, there is a good chance that they will be bringing it to market. We have our fingers crossed that the plug-in crossover will eventually be coming.
One upcoming hybrid that has already been confirmed for production is the Mercedes-Benz C350e, which is the first plug-in to sport the new “e” of the new vehicle naming system. Since it is expected to arrive at dealerships within the coming weeks, it will be the first of the 10 new plug-in vehicles to be released.
Just a short while back, we told you about the V-ision e Plug-In Hybrid van, and although we told you that it was just a concept, Mercedes now seems to be hinting that it will be making its way to production as one of the 10 plug-in hybrids. We hope the rumors are true, as the V-ision e would really help to fill a gap that currently exists in the van segment. Plug-in hybrid technology has yet to make its way into a van.
With the first plug-in hybrid crossover and the first plug-in hybrid van from Mercedes in the talks, it’s clear to see that the German automaker is making a push for more fuel economy, and that is more than fine with us. If you are interested in learning what the 10 new plug-in hybrid vehicles will be, we encourage you to check back here on the Vin Devers blog, as we will be sure to keep you updated as time goes on.
Mercedes has said that the release dates of these vehicles will be spread out between now and 2017, with a new vehicle surfacing roughly every four months. As we said, we cannot wait to see these new models.
